Paper Money Collecting As A Hobby

Banknote collecting, or Notaphily, is a slowly growing area of numismatics. Although generally not as widespread as coin and stamp collecting, the hobby is slowly expanding. Prior to the 1990s, currency collecting was a relatively small adjunct to coin collecting, but the practice of currency auctions, combined with larger public awareness of paper money have caused a little interest and values of rare banknotes.

Since 2007 Sanjay Relan, of Hong Kong, has held the Guinness world record for collecting 221 banknotes representing 221 different countries. For a short period, he also held the Guinness world record in 2007 for collecting 235 coins representing 235 different countries.

Famous quotes containing the words paper, money, collecting and/or hobby:

Painting dissolves the forms at its command, or tends to; it melts them into color. Drawing, on the other hand, goes about resolving forms, giving edge and essence to things. To see shapes clearly, one outlines them—whether on paper or in the mind. Therefore, Michelangelo, a profoundly cultivated man, called drawing the basis of all knowledge whatsoever.
    Alexander Eliot (b. 1919)

Too many desires harm the mind; to desire much money harms the body.
    Chinese proverb.

What pursuit is more elegant than that of collecting the ignominies of our nature and transfixing them for show, each on the bright pin of a polished phrase?
    Logan Pearsall Smith (1865–1946)

My hobby more and more is likely to be common school education, or universal education.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
