Land-based Game Fishing - Land Based Shark Species

Land Based Shark Species

Land based shark fishing has had some popularity since the early 1900s. Like other big game fish, sharks were initially fished from big game boats, and the activity was expensive. Some of the more sought species include large tiger sharks and hammerhead sharks, with sizes exceeding 500 lbs. Many land based shark fishermen use catch and release techniques to return sharks to the water after capture.

Famous quotes containing the words land, based, shark and/or species:

... anybody is as their land and air is. Anybody is as the sky is low or high, the air heavy or clear and anybody is as there is wind or no wind there. It is that which makes them and the arts they make and the work they do and the way they eat and the way they drink and the way they learn and everything.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

This is a war universe. War all the time. That is its nature. There may be other universes based on all sorts of other principles, but ours seems to be based on war and games.
    William Burroughs (b. 1914)

They will tell you tough stories of sharks all over the Cape, which I do not presume to doubt utterly,—how they will sometimes upset a boat, or tear it in pieces, to get at the man in it. I can easily believe in the undertow, but I have no doubt that one shark in a dozen years is enough to keep up the reputation of a beach a hundred miles long.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The French manner of hunting is gentlemanlike; ours is only for bumpkins and bodies. The poor beasts here are pursued and run down by much greater beasts than themselves; and the true British fox-hunter is most undoubtedly a species appropriated and peculiar to this country, which no other part of the globe produces.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)
