Modern Times
Since the early 20th century some Kurdish Jews had been active in the Zionist movement. One of the most famous members of Lehi (Freedom Fighters of Israel) was Moshe Barazani, whose family immigrated from Iraqi Kurdistan and settled in Jerusalem in the late 1920s.
The vast majority of Kurdish Jews were forced out of Iraq and evacuated to Israel in the early 1950s, together with the Iraqi Jewish community. The vast majority of the Kurdish Jews of Iranian Kurdistan relocated mostly to Israel as well, in the 1950s.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or times:
“Women have acquired equal place to man in society, but the double standard has really never been relinquished; certainly not by men. Modern mans fear of passivity or of the active woman proves to be as eternal as modern womans struggle to come to terms with her femininity.”
—Peter Blos (20th century)
“Who are you, said the caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, II hardly know, Sir, just at presentat least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have changed several times since then.”
—Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (18321898)
