Keith Moon - After Death

After Death

  • After Moon's death, Small Faces/Faces drummer Kenney Jones became an official member of The Who. Simon Phillips later toured with the band as an unofficial member. The Who also added keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick to the live band. As of September 2012, the Who's drum position is currently occupied by Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr. Starkey learned to drum from Moon, whom he called "Uncle Keith".
  • In 1978, Moon's ex-wife Kim Kerrigan married Ian McLagan of the Faces. She was killed in a traffic accident near Austin, Texas, on 2 August 2006.
  • In 1985, Daltrey recorded the album Under a Raging Moon, as a tribute to Moon. One of the album tracks was a performance by several prominent drummers.
  • The London Astoria music venue (now demolished) named a bar after Moon.
  • In 1999, author Tony Fletcher published a biography of Moon entitled Dear Boy: The Life of Keith Moon in the United Kingdom. The phrase "Dear Boy" had became a catchphrase of Moon's when he started affecting a pompous English accent around 1969, particularly when ordering drinks. In 2000, the book was released in the U.S. under the title, "Moon (The Life and Death of a Rock Legend)".
  • In early 2006, Moon's signature Pictures of Lily drum kit was reissued by Premier Percussion under the name Spirit of Lily.
  • In 2009, it was reported that Roger Daltrey was developing a biographical film about Moon called See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked for Your Pleasure, to be released in 2012. Comedian Mike Myers was to play the main role. However, according to Daltrey, this project may currently be stalled. As of September 2012, the film has not been shot.
  • The London 2012 Summer Olympic Committee contacted The Who manager Bill Curbishley about Moon performing at the games, 34 years after his death. In an interview with The Times, Curbishley quipped, "I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old'...If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him."

Famous quotes containing the word death:

Families suffered badly under industrialization, but they survived, and the lives of men, women, and children improved. Children, once marginal and exploited figures, have moved to a position of greater protection and respect,... The historic decline in the overall death rates for children is an astonishing social fact, notwithstanding the disgraceful infant mortality figures for the poor and minorities. Like the decline in death from childbirth for women, this is a stunning achievement.
    Joseph Featherstone (20th century)

It is easy to face Death and Fate, and the things that sound so dreadful. It is on my muddles that I look back with horror—on the things that I might have avoided.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)
