Henry Street High School is located in Whitby, Ontario within the Durham District School Board. The school offers programs for students in grades 9–12 and a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities.
The school offers a variety of courses specializing in anything from computer tech/business, to art/dramatic arts, to many varying sports related courses.
Henry Street has a newspaper called "Word on the Street" that was founded in 2005.
Henry Street has a very good volleyball club, and other athletics. Henry was well known for several years for its excellent football team until it was disbanded. It is now well known for its male and female rugby teams.
The school has lots of clubs and events for all students. Henry street is well known for its amazing performance and plays that are done twice a year. They also have a student council chosen every year that plans fun events for the entire school.
A large event during the spring is "Rivalry Week". Held for one week each year it represents the athletic rivalry between Henry Street High School and Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute (another local high school). Henry Street won the inaugural event in 2009, Anderson won the event in 2010 and 2011, and the Mayor's Cup is residing at Henry Street after their win in 2012.
The school was originally known as "Whitby District High School"; the name was changed after the opening of Whitby's second high school, Anderson, in 1960.
On 17 November 2011, this school was placed under a lockdown after a student allegedly assaulted the school Principal.
