Opposition
Groups have been formed in opposition to the union. These include Graduates Against Student Organization GASO, an unorganized collection of students in direct opposition of GESO, and At What Cost?, which encourages careful consideration of the consequences of forming a graduate student union. Both groups criticize GESO for their "aggressive recruiting methods." Also, these organizations argue that a sizable number of graduate students who are counted by GESO as members signed member cards solely to pacify recruiters. Membership in both groups is low, and their activity has been primarily in response to GESO actions, such as the 2003 election.

Famous quotes containing the word opposition:
“I fear the popular notion of success stands in direct opposition in all points to the real and wholesome success. One adores public opinion, the other, private opinion; one, fame, the other, desert; one, feats, the other, humility; one, lucre, the other, love; one, monopoly, and the other, hospitality of mind.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“A man with your experience in affairs must have seen cause to appreciate the futility of opposition to the moral sentiment. However feeble the sufferer and however great the oppressor, it is in the nature of things that the blow should recoil upon the aggressor. For God is in the sentiment, and it cannot be withstood.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Women will not advance except by joining together in cooperative action.... Unlike other groups, women do not need to set affiliation and strength in opposition one against the other. We can readily integrate the two, search for more and better ways to use affiliation to enhance strengthand strength to enhance affiliation.”
—Jean Baker Miller (20th century)
