Fsc Chain of Custody - Competing Certification Schemes

Competing Certification Schemes

There are a number of certification schemes for forest management apart from FSC certification.

The main competing forest certification system is the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), established by a number of stakeholders, including associations of the forest industry, pulp-and-paper production and forest owners in response to the creation and increasing popularity of FSC. It has been criticized for having little influence from local people or environmental organizations, lack of transparency and non-objective requirements

Other certification schemes include American Forest and Paper Association’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), the Malaysian Timber Certification Council, the Australian Forestry Standard, and Kerhout.

Famous quotes containing the words competing and/or schemes:

In a sense that I am unable to explicate further, the proponents of competing paradigms practice their trades in different worlds.
    Thomas S. Kuhn (1922)

Science is a dynamic undertaking directed to lowering the degree of the empiricism involved in solving problems; or, if you prefer, science is a process of fabricating a web of interconnected concepts and conceptual schemes arising from experiments and observations and fruitful of further experiments and observations.
    James Conant (1893–1978)
