Fluid Replacement

Fluid replacement or fluid resuscitation is the medical practice of replenishing bodily fluid lost through sweating, bleeding, fluid shifts or other pathologic processes. Fluids can be replaced via oral administration (drinking), intravenous administration, rectally, or by hypodermoclysis, the direct injection of fluid into the subcutaneous tissue. Fluids administered by the oral and hypodermic routes are absorbed more slowly than those given intravenously.

Famous quotes containing the words fluid and/or replacement:

    On and on eternally
    Shall your altered fluid run,
    Bud and bloom and go to seed;
    But your singing days are done;
    Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892–1950)

    Not even the visionary or mystical experience ever lasts very long. It is for art to capture that experience, to offer it to, in the case of literature, its readers; to be, for a secular, materialist culture, some sort of replacement for what the love of god offers in the world of faith.
    Salman Rushdie (b. 1947)
