Erode ) is a city, a municipal corporation and the headquarters of Erode district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

It is situated at the center of the South Indian Peninsula, about 400 kilometres (249 mi) southwest of the state capital Chennai and about 80 kilometres (50 mi) west of Coimbatore another commercial city of Tamil Nadu on the banks of the rivers Cauvery and Bhavani, between 11° 19.5" and 11° 81.05" North latitude and 77° 42.5" and 77° 44.5" East longitude. As per Census 2011 alignments, Erode Urban Agglomeration is located on the Western Banks of the river Cauvery, Erode is an important city in Kongu Nadu. It is well known for handloom, powerloom textile products and readymade garments. Hence it is called the Loom City of India or Texvalley of India. Products such as cotton sarees, bed spreads, carpets, lungies, printed fabrics, towels and dhotis are marketed here in bulk and during festivals a lot of profit is generated by cloth traders. It has also been nicknamed Manjal Maanagaram (Turmeric city) and Javuli Nagaram (Textile city).
