Ecological Modernization

Ecological modernization is an optimistic school of thought in the social sciences that argues that the economy benefits from moves towards environmentalism. It has gained increasing attention among scholars and policymakers in the last several decades in Europe, North America, Japan, and elsewhere (Spaargaren, Mol and Buttel, 2000; Mol, Sonnenfeld and Spaargaren 2009; Redclift and Woodgate, 2005, 1997; Dickens, 2004). It is an analytical approach as well as a policy strategy and environmental discourse (Hajer, 1995).

Famous quotes containing the word ecological:

Could it not be that just at the moment masculinity has brought us to the brink of nuclear destruction or ecological suicide, women are beginning to rise in response to the Mother’s call to save her planet and create instead the next stage of evolution? Can our revolution mean anything else than the reversion of social and economic control to Her representatives among Womankind, and the resumption of Her worship on the face of the Earth? Do we dare demand less?
    Jane Alpert (b. 1947)
