Eastern Province Kings - History

History

The team was originally a representative team, drawing players from within the provincial union area's club teams. However, with the advent of professionalism in rugby union in 1995, the team now contracts players from various regions. The team now operates more like a professional club, though the EPRU are still responsible for junior representative rugby teams and administrative matters in the region.

Prior to 2010, they were known as the Mighty Elephants, but in order to align themselves with the Super Rugby franchise, the Southern Kings, they changed their name to Eastern Province Kings.

The union is the base of the Southern Kings, which also incorporates the Border Bulldogs and the SWD Eagles.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

The history of work has been, in part, the history of the worker’s body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers’ intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.
    Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)

The greatest honor history can bestow is that of peacemaker.
    Richard M. Nixon (1913–1995)
