Discriminant Function Analysis - Variations

Variations

  • Multiple discriminant analysis (MDA): related to MANOVA. Has more than two groups, and uses multiple dummy variables.
  • Sequential discriminant analysis: assesses the importance of a set of IVs over and above a set of controls. In this case, the controls are entered first, and then the IVs.
  • Stepwise discriminant analysis: Selects the most correlated predictor first, removes that variance in the grouping variable then adds the next most correlated and continues until the change in canonical correlation is not significant. Of course, both forward and backward stepwise procedures may be performed.

Famous quotes containing the word variations:

I may be able to spot arrowheads on the desert but a refrigerator is a jungle in which I am easily lost. My wife, however, will unerringly point out that the cheese or the leftover roast is hiding right in front of my eyes. Hundreds of such experiences convince me that men and women often inhabit quite different visual worlds. These are differences which cannot be attributed to variations in visual acuity. Man and women simply have learned to use their eyes in very different ways.
    Edward T. Hall (b. 1914)
