Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - Function

Function

The DFG supports research in science, engineering, and the humanities through a large variety of grant programmes, prizes and by funding infrastructure. The self-governed organization is based in Bonn and financed by the German states and the federal government. Only Germany's leading research universities are members of the DFG.

Famous quotes containing the word function:

    “... The state’s one function is to give.
    The bud must bloom till blowsy blown
    Its petals loosen and are strown;
    And that’s a fate it can’t evade
    Unless ‘twould rather wilt than fade.”
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    We are thus able to distinguish thinking as the function which is to a large extent linguistic.
    Benjamin Lee Whorf (1897–1934)

    Any translation which intends to perform a transmitting function cannot transmit anything but information—hence, something inessential. This is the hallmark of bad translations.
    Walter Benjamin (1892–1940)
