Controversy
In 2007, Crossroads faced a crisis of leadership when the school board forced superintendent Dave Vander Goot to resign. His resignation was accepted at a June 21 board meeting. In response to demands by parents to explain the firing, board president Dave Engels said the board is not allowed to discuss personnel issues publicly. At the same meeting, the board accepted the resignations of board members Jeff Thorne and Tina Wood, both of whom had served since 1998 and were instrumental in the school's founding.
Since then, there have been calls for the board to be elected by the parents of Crossroads students. As it currently stands, new board members are elected by the existing board, which has led to some members' terms lasting upward of nine years.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:
“Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but Im not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.”
—Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
“And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.”
—Thomas Hobbes (15791688)
