  • His Royal Highness Prince Carl Johan of Sweden, Duke of Dalarna (31 October 1916 – 19 February 1946)

  • His Excellency Count Carl Johan Bernadotte of Wisborg, (2 July 1951 – 5 May 2012)

When marrying morganatically on 19 February 1946 he lost his Swedish royal titles, i.e. Prince of Sweden and Duke of Dalarna. He subsequently assumed the surname Bernadotte, the name of the Swedish Royal Family. Bernadotte was created a Count of Wisborg in the Luxembourgian nobility by Charlotte, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, on 2 July 1951. Counts of Wisborg are considered to be part of the Swedish unintroduced nobility.

He was chairman of Ointroducerad Adels Förening, the association of the unintroduced nobility in Sweden, from 1948 till 1963.

Famous quotes containing the words titles, birth and/or death:

We have to be despised by somebody whom we regard as above us, or we are not happy; we have to have somebody to worship and envy, or we cannot be content. In America we manifest this in all the ancient and customary ways. In public we scoff at titles and hereditary privilege, but privately we hanker after them, and when we get a chance we buy them for cash and a daughter.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

There is a certain class of people who prefer to say that their fathers came down in the world through their own follies than to boast that they rose in the world through their own industry and talents. It is the same shabby-genteel sentiment, the same vanity of birth which makes men prefer to believe that they are degenerated angels rather than elevated apes.
    W. Winwood Reade (1838–1875)

I can only see death and more death, till we are black and swollen with death.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
