Colmar Freiherr Von Der Goltz - Death

Death

Goltz died on 19 April 1916, in Baghdad, just two weeks before the British in Kut surrendered. The official reason for his death was typhus, although apparently there were rumors that he had been poisoned by the Turks. In accordance with his will, he was buried in the grounds of the German Consulate in Tarabya, Istanbul, overlooking the Bosporus.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

I admit that the generation which produced Stalin, Auschwitz and Hiroshima will take some beating; but the radical and universal consciousness of the death of God is still ahead of us; perhaps we shall have to colonize the stars before it is finally borne in upon us that God is not out there.
    R.J. Hollingdale (b. 1930)

And yet the sun pardons our voices still,
    And berries in the hedge
Through all the nights of rain have come to the full,
And death seems like long hills, a range
We ride each day towards, and never reach.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

    Is it sin
To rush into the secret house of death
Ere death dare come to us?
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
