CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model

CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model

The CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM) provides an extensible ontology for concepts and information in cultural heritage and museum documentation. It is the international standard (ISO 21127:2006) for the controlled exchange of cultural heritage information. Archives, libraries, museums, and other cultural institutions are encouraged to use the CIDOC CRM to enhance accessibility to museum-related information and knowledge.

Famous quotes containing the words conceptual, reference and/or model:

I thought it was a wonderfully conceptual act actually, to fire a replica pistol at a figurehead—the guy could have been working for Andy Warhol!
    —J.G. (James Graham)

Meaning is what essence becomes when it is divorced from the object of reference and wedded to the word.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)

If the man who paints only the tree, or flower, or other surface he sees before him were an artist, the king of artists would be the photographer. It is for the artist to do something beyond this: in portrait painting to put on canvas something more than the face the model wears for that one day; to paint the man, in short, as well as his features.
    James Mcneill Whistler (1834–1903)
