Cabarrus County is a member of the regional Centralina Council of Governments. Cabarrus County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, elected at large in countywide elections to serve four-year staggered terms. The county's operations are managed by a "County Manager". Michael K. Downs is the current County Manager. The current Chair is Elizabeth "Liz" Poole and the Vice-Chair is Larry Burrage. The other board members are Christopher Measmer, Jay White, and Robert Carruth.
