Barnstaple i/ˈbɑrnstəbəl/ or /ˈbɑrnstəpəl/ is a former river-port, large town and civil parish in the local government district of North Devon in the county of Devon, England.
Since 1974, it has been a civil parish governed by town council. It has a population of about 34,000.
