Following his second political retirement, Meighen returned to the practice of law in Toronto. He died in Toronto, aged 86, on August 5, 1960, and was buried in St. Marys Cemetery, St. Marys, Ontario, near his birthplace. As of 2012, he has had the longest retirement of any Canadian Prime Minister, at 33 years, 10 months, 11 days.
