Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize For Poetry

Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry/prix Lansdowne de poésie, established in 2007, is awarded annually to the best full length adult book of poetry in either French or English by a resident of Manitoba, Canada.

One of Brave New Words: The Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards, the award was originally known as the Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. Late in 2007, it was renamed after the new sponsor Aqua Books, and also to reflect the bilingual nature of the award. The Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry Reading Series, hosted in conjunction with The Writers' Collective, is based around this award.

Famous quotes containing the words books, prize and/or poetry:

    Books are fatal: they are the curse of the human race. Nine- tenths of existing books are nonsense, and the clever books are the refutation of that nonsense. The greatest misfortune that ever befell man was the invention of printing.
    Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881)

    He saw, he wish’d, and to the prize aspir’d.
    Resolv’d to win, he meditates the way,
    By force to ravish, or by fraud betray;
    For when success a lover’s toil attends,
    Few ask, if fraud or force attain’d his ends.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

    When I said.
    A rose is a rose is a rose.
    And then later made that into a ring I made poetry and what
    did I do I caressed completely caressed and addressed
    a noun.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)
