Air Source Heat Pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps

An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a heating and cooling system that uses outside air as its heat source and heat sink. Under the principles of vapor compression refrigeration, an ASHP uses a refrigerant system involving a compressor and a condenser to absorb heat at one place and release it at another. When used as a space heater air source heat pumps are usually called "reverse-cycle air conditioners".

In domestic heating use, an ASHP absorbs heat from outside air and releases it inside during winter, and can often do the converse in summer. When correctly specified, an ASHP can offer a full central heating solution and domestic hot water up to 80°C.

Famous quotes containing the words air, source, heat and/or pumps:

The evergreen woods had a decidedly sweet and bracing fragrance; the air was a sort of diet-drink, and we walked on buoyantly in Indian file, stretching our legs.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

As a means of contrast with the sublime, the grotesque is, in our view, the richest source that nature can offer.
    Victor Hugo (1802–1885)

... often in the heat of noonday, leaning on a hoe, looking across valleys at the mountains, so blue, so close, my only conscious thought was, “How can I ever get away from here? How can I get to where they have books, where I can be educated?” I worked hard, always waiting for something to happen to change things. There came a time when I knew I must make them happen; that no one would do anything about it for me. And I did.
    Belinda Jelliffe (1892–1979)

    the rusty
Pump pumps over your sweating face the clear
Water, cold, so cold! you cup your hands
And gulp from them the dailiness of life.
    Randall Jarrell (1914–1965)
