Zeme Languages

The Zeme languages are a small family of Tibeto-Burman languages spoken mostly in northwestern Manipur state of northeast India. Conventionally classified as "Naga", they are not clearly related to other Naga languages, and are conservatively classified as an independent branch of Tibeto-Burman, pending further research.

The Zeme languages are the Zeme cluster (Zeme proper, aka Empeo; Liangmai, and Rongmai, aka Kabui or Nruanghmei), which are close enough to sometimes be considered dialects of a single Zeliang language; plus Mzieme, Puiron, Khoirao, Maram, Inpui, and Puimei.

Ethnologue adds Koireng.

Famous quotes containing the word languages:

The very natural tendency to use terms derived from traditional grammar like verb, noun, adjective, passive voice, in describing languages outside of Indo-European is fraught with grave possibilities of misunderstanding.
    Benjamin Lee Whorf (1897–1934)
