History
The channel was established by Essel Group under the stewardship of Ashish Kaul, VP of Corporate Brand Development and Nitin Vaidya, business head of Smile TV. Along with sitcoms, the channel also broadcast game shows, comedy chat shows, and comedy movies. The channel also acquired various successful globally accepted comic formats as well as Indian formats to generate more revenue.
The channel was mainly launched to compete with rival SAB TV, the only other Indian comedy channel. Presently, with a tough competition in the market and Zee TV being the main focus, Zee Smile has no original (new) shows in its basket. Currently, it only airs reruns of recently ended popular drama series of its sister channel Zee TV along with some television shopping programmes.

“Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.”
—William Faulkner (1897–1962)
