In 1943, three men by the names of Mr Philip Borg who was from Floriana but took refuge in Zebbug because of the war, Mr.John Caruana who was from Cospicua and also took refuge in Zebbug and Mr Ninu Saliba who was from Zebbug, formed the Zebbug Rangers Football Club. Mr.John Caruana suggested to name the team after the famous Scottish football team of Glasgow Rangers. Mr.Philip Borg decided that the clubs colours will be yellow and green. The reason Philip chose those colours was that although his father was from Zebbug, he was born and bred in Floriana and chose the colour green, while the colour yellow was at that time the colour of the buses of Zebbug.
