History
Llanhari is one of the older Welsh medium secondary schools in the area, having opened in 1974. It followed Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen as vanguard of such schools in South Wales. Over time, it became apparent that Llanhari would not be able to cope with the pupil numbers, as it was oversubscribed, and in 1978, Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf opened in Cardiff in order to take the South Glamorgan pupils and relieve Llanhari. On the 6th of June 2011, it was publicly announced that from 2012 the school would incorporate a primary unit and become a 3-19 school.
On September 3rd 2012, the Primary Unit was handed over to Mr Meirion Stephens and the School was formally designated a 3-19 school with the new name of Ysgol Llanhari. Mrs Catherine Webb is Assistant Head with responsibility for this unit.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of this country was made largely by people who wanted to be left alone. Those who could not thrive when left to themselves never felt at ease in America.”
—Eric Hoffer (19021983)
“The history of any nation follows an undulatory course. In the trough of the wave we find more or less complete anarchy; but the crest is not more or less complete Utopia, but only, at best, a tolerably humane, partially free and fairly just society that invariably carries within itself the seeds of its own decadence.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
“The history of our era is the nauseating and repulsive history of the crucifixion of the procreative body for the glorification of the spirit.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
