Layout
The station lies at the junction between the Echigo Line and Yahiko Line. It has a total of five platforms, one side platform and two island platforms, connected by a footbridge. There are also engine shed and sidings.
The station is staffed. Tickets, including those for the shinkansen (hourly services from Niigata or Tsubame-Sanjō ), can be bought from the manned kiosk. There is also an automated ticket vending machine and Suica scanner (Niigata City Travel Card).
The station has toilets and a concessions store.
