History
During World War II Yorkton Airport was home to No. 23 Elementary Flying Training School and No. 11 Service Flying Training School - both schools being a part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Among the present users is a Gliding Centre, operated for the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
Construction of the No. 11 Service Flying Training School began in 1940, opening on June 11, 1941 first commanded by Group Captain George R. Howsam. The school consisted of 40 buildings, including a mess hall, a 35-bed hospital, and hangars to shelter 200 planes.
