Yarmouk University (Arabic: جامعة اليرموك, also abbreviated YU) is a public university in Irbid in northern Jordan. It was established by a Royal Decree in 1976 and currently has more than 40,000 students are currently enrolled in a wide range of graduate and undergraduate programs. The university has several international partnerships with overseas universities. Within the joint TEMPUS program, international students of Brandenburg Technical University conduct researches in Yarmouk University as exchange students. Yarmouk is a government funded institution, but enjoys a considerable degree of autonomy. It is governed by a Board of Trustees to which members are appointed by a Royal Decree for specific terms.
On the university campus there is also an autonomous private secondary school called Yarmouk University Model School, which gives priority of admission to children of university staff.
