Yantai Raffles Shipyard - World's Largest Crane

World's Largest Crane

Taisun, the world's largest gantry crane, with a lifting capacity of 20,000 metric tonnes, has taken over 7 years to plan and an additional 12 months for the preparation of its design framework.

The crane, capable of muscling up to 10,000 cars in one lift, allows the mating of an entire outfitted deck box of a semi-submersible rig onto its hull/pontoons in one single operation. The shipyard states that this will reduce work hazards at high altitudes and in the open sea. The lifting of the complete deck box reduces man-hours by as much as half.

Famous quotes containing the words world, largest and/or crane:

To be in a world which is a hell, to be of that world and neither to believe in or guess at anything but that world is not merely hell but the only possible damnation: the act of a man damning himself. It may be—I hope it is—redemption to guess and perhaps perceive that the universe, the hell which we see for all its beauty, vastness, majesty, is only part of a whole which is quite unimaginable.
    William Golding (b. 1911)

...I believed passionately that Communists were a race of horned men who divided their time equally between the burning of Nancy Drew books and the devising of a plan of nuclear attack that would land the largest and most lethal bomb squarely upon the third-grade class of Thomas Jefferson School in Morristown, New Jersey.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)

But the star-glistered salver of infinity,
The circle, blind crucible of endless space,
    Is sluiced by motion,—subjugated never.
    —Hart Crane (1899–1932)
