The Yamada Line (山田線, Yamada-sen?) is a railway line in Japan operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It runs from Morioka Station in Morioka, Iwate to Kamaishi Station in Kamaishi, Iwate via Miyako Station in Miyako, Iwate. From Kamaishi to Miyako, trains go by the Sanriku-Kaigan Sea. The tracks from Miyako Station to Morioka Station run deep into the mountains along the Hei River.
The 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on 11 March 2011 destroyed much of the tracks and many stations between Miyako and Kamaishi. As of March 2012, service has not resumed on this portion of the Yamada Line. In February 2012, JR East officially proposed that this section of the line be scrapped and the right-of-way used as a bus rapid transit (BRT) route.

Famous quotes containing the word line:
“What is line? It is life. A line must live at each point along its course in such a way that the artists presence makes itself felt above that of the model.... With the writer, line takes precedence over form and content. It runs through the words he assembles. It strikes a continuous note unperceived by ear or eye. It is, in a way, the souls style, and if the line ceases to have a life of its own, if it only describes an arabesque, the soul is missing and the writing dies.”
—Jean Cocteau (18891963)
