XL Airways France - History

History

Formed as Star Airlines (abrreviation for Société de Transport Aérien Régional) in 1995 by Cédric Pastour, the airline was previously owned by Transat A.T., before being sold to and taken over by XL Leisure Group. On 23 November 2006 the airline changed its name to XL Airways France. The owning group went bankrupt on 12 September 2008, but the airline was saved as it was acquired by Straumur-Burdaras Investment Bank on the same day, along with its German sister company XL Airways Germany. In November 2012, the airline was sold to X-Air Aviation, a subsidiary of Swiss-US investment group BeachSide Capital.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

To care for the quarrels of the past, to identify oneself passionately with a cause that became, politically speaking, a losing cause with the birth of the modern world, is to experience a kind of straining against reality, a rebellious nonconformity that, again, is rare in America, where children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)

The myth of independence from the mother is abandoned in mid- life as women learn new routes around the mother—both the mother without and the mother within. A mid-life daughter may reengage with a mother or put new controls on care and set limits to love. But whatever she does, her child’s history is never finished.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

He wrote in prison, not a History of the World, like Raleigh, but an American book which I think will live longer than that. I do not know of such words, uttered under such circumstances, and so copiously withal, in Roman or English or any history.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
