Xi'an Xianyang International Airport - History

History

Before Xianyang Airport was built, Xi'an was served by Xi'an Xiguan Airport. In 1984, the State Council of China and the Central Military Commission proposed to build a large civil airport on the site of Xianyang's airfield. Phase 1 of the airport commenced construction on August 1987, and was finished and opened on September 1, 1991. Xi'an Xiguan Airport was closed at the same time. Phase 2 started in August 2000, and was finished on September 16, 2003. Another 7.592-billion-yuan project is scheduled to be completed by 2020.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

There is no history of how bad became better.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It is my conviction that women are the natural orators of the race.

    The custard is setting; meanwhile
I not only have my own history to worry about
But am forced to fret over insufficient details related to large
Unfinished concepts that can never bring themselves to the point
Of being, with or without my help, if any were forthcoming.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
