Churches

Wroxton is recorded as having a church in 1217, but the present Church of England parish church of All Saints is early 14th century. A Perpendicular Gothic clerestory and porch were added early in the 15th century. The bell tower was designed by Sanderson Miller and in 1748, paid for by Lord North, who owned Wroxton Abbey.

The tower has a ring of five bells, all cast by Henry I Bagley of Chacombe in 1676. All Saints is now one of eight ecclesiastical parishes in the Ironstone Benefice.

The Roman Catholic church of Saint Thomas of Canterbury was built in 1894. It is unusual in having a thatched roof.

Goodman Methodist Church was built in 1935. It is a member of Banbury Methodist Circuit.

Famous quotes containing the word churches:

    The law of God is a law of change, and ... when the Churches set themselves against change as such, they are setting themselves against the law of God.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

    He asked if I would sell my Christmas trees;
    My woods the young fir balsams like a place
    Where houses all are churches and have spires.
    I hadn’t thought of them as Christmas trees.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    I fancy it must be the quantity of animal food eaten by the English which renders their character insusceptible of civilisation. I suspect it is in their kitchens and not in their churches that their reformation must be worked, and that Missionaries of that description from [France] would avail more than those who should endeavor to tame them by precepts of religion or philosophy.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
