Modern Activities
In common with many of the other Livery Companies, the Company is no longer a trade association and is primarily concerned with raising funds for distribution to various charities through its benevolent fund, formed in 2010, as well as supporting educational institutions and providing support for members of the tobacco trade and their families.
Amongst a wide range of charitable activities, the Company sponsors an under-15s trophy at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, for which the Company's funds also help to maintain coaching programmes and infrastructure, and it supports a horse riding school for the disabled based in Essex.
The Master of the Company for 2012-13 is Michael C. T. Prideaux. Lt Col Peter Swanson is the Clerk.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or activities:
“There is something ridiculous and even quite indecent in an individual claiming to be happy. Still more a people or a nation making such a claim. The pursuit of happiness ... is without any question the most fatuous which could possibly be undertaken. This lamentable phrase the pursuit of happiness is responsible for a good part of the ills and miseries of the modern world.”
—Malcolm Muggeridge (19031990)
“I am admonished in many ways that time is pushing me inexorably along. I am approaching the threshold of age; in 1977 I shall be 142. This is no time to be flitting about the earth. I must cease from the activities proper to youth and begin to take on the dignities and gravities and inertia proper to that season of honorable senility which is on its way.”
—Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (18351910)
