World Open (snooker)

The World Open is a professional ranking snooker tournament. It has previously been known as the Professional Players Tournament, the LG Cup and the Grand Prix. During 2006 and 2007, it was played in a unique round-robin format, more similar to association football and rugby tournaments than the knock-out systems usually played in snooker. The knock-out format returned in 2008 with an FA Cup-style draw. The random draw was abandoned after the 2010 edition. The reigning champion is Mark Allen.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or open:

I am positive I have a soul; nor can all the books with which materialists have pester’d the world ever convince me of the contrary.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)

    Rats!
They fought the dogs and killed the cats,
And bit the babies in the cradles,
And ate the cheeses out of the vats,
And licked the soup from the cooks’ own ladles,
Split open the kegs of salted sprats,
Made nests inside men’s Sunday hats,
And even spoiled the women’s chats
    By drowning their speaking
    With shrieking and squeaking
In fifty different sharps and flats.
    Robert Browning (1812–1889)
