World Food Day

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organisations concerned with food security, including the World Food Programme.

The World Food Day theme for 2012 is "Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world".

Famous quotes containing the words world, food and/or day:

“If everybody minded their own business,” the Duchess said in a hoarse growl, “the world would go round a deal faster than it does.”
Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)

We can come up with a working definition of life, which is what we did for the Viking mission to Mars. We said we could think in terms of a large molecule made up of carbon compounds that can replicate, or make copies of itself, and metabolize food and energy. So that’s the thought: macrocolecule, metabolism, replication.
    Cyril Ponnamperuma (b. 1923)

He makes a July’s day short as December,
And with his varying childness cures in me
Thoughts that would thick my blood.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
