Churches

Saint Peters church was built in 1893 although it was not until 1915 that it was legally designated the parish church. Until then the little church of Saint Andrews, built in 1846, was the parish church, but was too small for the rapidly growing town. Woodhall Spa is part of a group of six Anglican parishes comprising: Woodhall Spa and Kirkstead, Stixwould, Horsington, Langton with Old Woodhall, and Bucknall with Tupholme.

The Church of Our Lady and Saint Peter, built in 1893, is Woodhall Spa's Roman Catholic church.

Famous quotes containing the word churches:

Science is neither a single tradition, nor the best tradition there is, except for people who have become accustomed to its presence, its benefits and its disadvantages. In a democracy it should be separated from the state just as churches are now separated from the state.
    Paul Feyerabend (1924–1994)

I fancy it must be the quantity of animal food eaten by the English which renders their character insusceptible of civilisation. I suspect it is in their kitchens and not in their churches that their reformation must be worked, and that Missionaries of that description from [France] would avail more than those who should endeavor to tame them by precepts of religion or philosophy.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Here, the churches seemed to shrink away into eroding corners. They seem to have ceased to be essential parts of American life. They no longer give life. It is the huge buildings of commerce and trade which now align the people to attention. These in their massive manner of steel and stone say, Come unto me all ye who labour, and we will give you work.
    Sean O’Casey (1884–1964)
