Fine Woodworking magazine ran a number of test to evaluate the mechanical resistance of wood joins with different glues, the results were as follows :
JOINT STRENGTH AS % OF TYPE I PVA GLUE
Type I PVA glue (Waterproof) 100%
Slow-set epoxy 99%
PVA glue 95%
Liquid hide glue 79%
Hot hide glue 76 %
Polyurethane 58 %
