Women's Rights In Afghanistan
Women's rights in Afghanistan have suffered through tremendous turmoil in the last three decades or in the last quarter of the past century. Famous quotes containing the words women and/or rights:
“Men are the managers of the affairs of women
for that God has preferred in bounty
one of them over another, and for that
they have expended of their property.
Righteous women are therefore obedient,
guarding the secret for Gods guarding.
And those you fear may be rebellious
admonish; banish them to their couches,
and beat them.”
—QurAn. Women 4:38, ed. Arthur J. Arberry (1955)
“We hold these truths to be sacred and undeniable; that all men are created equal and independent, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
