The school gained notoriety in 2003 when a group of youths committed an arson attack against the technology building.
In 2011, the head of music; Craig Parkin, was found guilty of having a sexual affair with one of the students at the college. Parkin instigated a close relationship with one of his students after she turned 14. They began having sex at 15. Parkin was later sentenced to four years imprisonment and has been banned from working with children and will be on the national sex offenders register for life.
