Development Plans
Early in 2008, the Wirral LEA secured a £3.1 million grant in order to replace the mobile classrooms and replace them with a full-brick building hosting the Mathematics department, Business Studies facilities, some History/Geography rooms, an extra Modern Foreign Languages room and another 2 Science laboratories, as well as a new Music Centre and several ICT suites. In addition, there is now an exterior Science area, along with a greenhouse, as well as refurbishment to the main building, including two Sixth Form History and Politics classrooms. Building for this plan made steady progress, and was used in moderation from Easter 2008, despite its official opening and full use from September 2008. An entrance atrium is part of the new development, where Art Exhibitions are held, featuring student work. Refurbishment to the original main building took place in the Summer 2009 and including the refurbishment of several science classrooms with new workbenches and educational facilities.
In the academic year of 2008/9 the school became a Business and Enterprise College, which provided a grant for development of ICT facilities and the Business Studies department. This specialisation was marked with improved ICT facilities, both for students and for the community, including summer classes for ICT, Photography and basic Business skills, as well as several ICT suites and Business Studies classrooms being developed in the new building. In 2008 a school radio station was set up, called Livewire Radio. This broadcasts daily at lunchtimes, and can be heard in the School Hall and Dining Room. Students and teachers host the shows, featuring various musical genres and discussions regarding issues relevant to the pupils.
More recently, development has included a new multi-purpose Activity Hall, refurbished Conference Hall, new Cookery Classrooms and refurbished changing rooms. During the 2012 Summer Holidays, an Outdoor Classroom was built as part of the Art Department, located behind the gym on the land that used to be occupied by the old music rooms. The landscaped area will be used by the department for observational work and the displaying of 3D pieces. It came into use in September 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words development and/or plans:
“Theories of child development and guidelines for parents are not cast in stone. They are constantly changing and adapting to new information and new pressures. There is no right way, just as there are no magic incantations that will always painlessly resolve a childs problems.”
—Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
“In order to become spoiled ... a child has to be able to want things as well as need them. He has to be able to see himself as a being who is separate from everyone else.... A baby is none of these things. He feels a need and he expresses it. He is not intellectually capable of working out involved plans and ideas like Can I make her give me...? If I make enough fuss he will...? They let me do ... yesterday and I want to do it again today so Ill....”
—Penelope Leach (20th century)
