Winghead Shark - Human Interactions

Human Interactions

The winghead shark is probably harmless to humans. It is a common fisheries species in India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Thailand, and probably also in other parts of its range. It is caught with floating gillnets, fixed bottom gill nets, stake nets, seines, with floating and bottom longlines, and probably on hook-and-line. It is particularly common in catches off Kalimantan, and comprise a small part of Australian commercial catches. The meat is used for human consumption, the liver is a source of high-potency vitamin oil, and the offal is probably used for fishmeal. There is no scientific data on its population status, though anecdotal accounts and market surveys suggest that it has likely declined in most of its range except Australia.

Famous quotes containing the words human and/or interactions:

Sinclair Lewis is the perfect example of the false sense of time of the newspaper world.... [ellipsis in source] He was always dominated by an artificial time when he wrote Main Street.... He did not create actual human beings at any time. That is what makes it newspaper. Sinclair Lewis is the typical newspaperman and everything he says is newspaper. The difference between a thinker and a newspaperman is that a thinker enters right into things, a newspaperman is superficial.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

Whereas children can learn from their interactions with their parents how to get along in one sort of social hierarchy—that of the family—it is from their interactions with peers that they can best learn how to survive among equals in a wide range of social situations.
    Zick Rubin (20th century)
