Windows Recovery Environment
Windows Preinstallation Environment (AKA Windows PE and WinPE) is a lightweight version of Windows used for the deployment of workstations and servers or troubleshooting an operating system while it is offline. It is intended to replace MS-DOS boot disks and can be booted via PXE, iPXE, CD-ROM, USB flash drive or hard disk. Traditionally used by large corporations and OEMs (to preinstall Windows client operating systems on PCs during manufacturing), it is now widely available free of charge via the Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK).

Famous quotes containing the words windows, recovery and/or environment:
“All day long the machine waits: rooms,
stairs, carpets, furniture, people
those people who stand at the open windows like objects
waiting to topple.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“With any recovery from morbidity there must go a certain healthy humiliation.”
—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (18741936)
“People between twenty and forty are not sympathetic. The child has the capacity to do but it cant know. It only knows when it is no longer able to doafter forty. Between twenty and forty the will of the child to do gets stronger, more dangerous, but it has not begun to learn to know yet. Since his capacity to do is forced into channels of evil through environment and pressures, man is strong before he is moral. The worlds anguish is caused by people between twenty and forty.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
