Windlesham Moor - Present

Present

The current owner is Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum

It has been vastly renovated by its current owner, with major extensions to the main house, the addition of a large security gatehouse in 2002, and the inclusion of several other smaller properties into the estate, namely "Winklands" and "Rose Cottage".

The house is seldom occupied for the majority of the year, but is used throughout the summer months (July to September) by its current owner, his family, and other Arab dignitaries.

The property is maintained all year round by a team of property managers, gardeners and security personnel.

A painting of the house and gardens circa 1934, which was claimed to have been painted by Winston Churchill, was discovered and auctioned in September 2008.

Famous quotes containing the word present:

‘Tis the world-old way of the rain
When it comes to a mountain farm
To exact for a present gain
    A little of future harm.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

Post-modernism has cut off the present from all futures. The daily media add to this by cutting off the past. Which means that critical opinion is often orphaned in the present.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

Art for art’s sake? I should think so, and more so than ever at the present time. It is the one orderly product which our middling race has produced. It is the cry of a thousand sentinels, the echo from a thousand labyrinths, it is the lighthouse which cannot be hidden ... it is the best evidence we can have of our dignity.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)
