The Winans Family in Popular Culture

On December 24, 1990 the Winans family appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Family members on the show included Ronald, Carvin, Marvin, and Michael (as "The Winans"), BeBe & CeCe (as a duo), Vickie, Mom and Pop, Daniel, David, Angie, and Debbie.

Hip-hop artists A Tribe Called Quest mention the family in their track "Buggin Out" from the album The Low End Theory; Phife raps "I float like gravity/ never had a cavity / got more rhymes than the Winans got family".

In the Disney Channel's animated television show The Proud Family TV series, the baby twins were named "BeBe & CeCe."

Famous quotes containing the words popular culture, family, popular and/or culture:

The lowest form of popular culture—lack of information, misinformation, disinformation, and a contempt for the truth or the reality of most people’s lives—has overrun real journalism. Today, ordinary Americans are being stuffed with garbage.
    Carl Bernstein (b. 1944)

It is hereby earnestly proposed that the USA would be much better off if that big, sprawling, incoherent, shapeless, slobbering civic idiot in the family of American communities, the City of Los Angeles, could be declared incompetent and placed in charge of a guardian like any individual mental defective.
    Westbrook Pegler (1894–1969)

Vodka is our enemy, so let’s finish it off.
—Russian saying popular in the Soviet period, trans. by Vladimir Ivanovich Shlyakov (1993)

The fact remains that the human being in early childhood learns to consider one or the other aspect of bodily function as evil, shameful, or unsafe. There is not a culture which does not use a combination of these devils to develop, by way of counterpoint, its own style of faith, pride, certainty, and initiative.
    Erik H. Erikson (1904–1994)
