Famous quotes containing the words wilson, community and/or college:
“I must beg you to indulge me in the matter of hyphens.... You will find that I have marked out a great many in the proofs. We are in danger of Germanizing our printing by using them so much, and I have a very decided preference in the matter.”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
“The poorest children in a community now find the beneficent kindergarten open to them from the age of two-and-a-half to six years. Too young heretofore to be eligible to any public school, they have acquired in their babyhood the vicious tendencies of their own depraved neighborhoods; and to their environment at that tender age had been due the loss of decency and self-respect that no after example of education has been able to restore to them.”
—Virginia Thrall Smith (18361903)
“I never feel so conscious of my race as I do when I stand before a class of twenty-five young men and women eager to learn about what it is to be black in America.”
—Claire Oberon Garcia, African American college professor. As quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B3 (July 27, 1994)
