William Morrant Baker - Work

Work

He wrote a number of articles on bone and joint problems. He became regarded as an expert in renal surgery, particularly nephrolitomy. He first described the knee joint problem Baker's cyst which is named after him, as are Baker's cannula, a flexible tracheal cannula and Baker's disease a defect of the periarticular ligaments. Baker's other major contribution was his original description in 1873 of a kind of infective dermatitis known today as erysipeloid.

Famous quotes containing the word work:

In my dreams is a country where the State is the Church and the Church the people: three in one and one in three. It is a commonwealth in which work is play and play is life: three in one and one in three. It is a temple in which the priest is the worshiper and the worshiper the worshipped: three in one and one in three. It is a godhead in which all life is human and all humanity divine: three in one and one in three.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

Every great work of art has two faces, one toward its own time and one toward the future, toward eternity.
    Daniel Barenboim (b. 1942)

The real risks for any artist are taken ... in pushing the work to the limits of what is possible, in the attempt to increase the sum of what it is possible to think. Books become good when they go to this edge and risk falling over it—when they endanger the artist by reason of what he has, or has not, artistically dared.
    Salman Rushdie (b. 1947)
