Vincent Van Gogh
In 1866, the school welcomed of its most remarkable students and certainly its most famous: Vincent van Gogh. He left the school halfway during his second year, for unknown reasons. His parents still lived in Zundert and Vincent lived in one of the houses at the St. Annaplein in Tilburg, not far from the school. The oldest school photograph in the files of the school, a typical class photograph, is a famous photo of Van Gogh. It is said that his art teacher, Huijsmans, has had a strong influence of Gogh's early style.

Famous quotes containing the words vincent, van and/or gogh:
“And mother almost always sighs,
When father carves the duck.
Then all of us prepare to rise,
And hold our bibs before our eyes,
And be prepared for some surprise,
When father carves the duck.”
—Ernest Vincent Wright Wotton (18721939)
“The totality of our so-called knowledge or beliefs, from the most casual matters of geography and history to the profoundest laws of atomic physics or even of pure mathematics and logic, is a man-made fabric which impinges on experience only along the edges. Or, to change the figure, total science is like a field of force whose boundary conditions are experience.”
—Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)
“It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to.... The feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures.”
—Vincent Van Gogh (18531890)
