Wigtownshire (UK Parliament Constituency) - Constituency Boundaries

Constituency Boundaries

Wigtownshire is a Scottish shire (later known as a county), which had previously been represented by two commissioners in the former Parliament of Scotland.

The constituency included the whole shire, except that between 1708-1885 the burghs of Stranraer, New Galloway, Whithorn and Wigtown, formed part of the Wigtown Burghs constituency.

Famous quotes containing the words constituency and/or boundaries:

Social Security is a government program with a constituency made up of the old, the near old and those who hope or fear to grow old. After 215 years of trying, we have finally discovered a special interest that includes 100 percent of the population. Now we can vote ourselves rich.
    —P.J. (Patrick Jake)

We love to overlook the boundaries which we do not wish to pass.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)
